There are more than 600 Walking for Health schemes running across the Country.  The Get Active in The Forest walking programme runs 21 weekly walks in South Derbyshire with an additional two themed walks per month.  The walks last about 45 minutes to 1 hour and are aimed at getting people more active whilst at the same time enjoying their local environment.  Obviously, the Arboretum is perfect for this!  People of any level of fitness can take part in these walks.  Trained walk leaders (at least two) can adapt the walk to suit any pace.

Arboretum Story Circle

Maria Whatton, an award-winning professional storyteller, has opened up a Story Circle at the Arboretum.  This is a space where once a month participants can tell stories, myths, legends and folk tales from life.  The group is open to those who want to tell stories as much as to those who want to listen to them - no obligation to speak, just come along and listen.

Maria is an experienced workshop leader and trainer who will be guiding the group with sensitivity and respect as well as sharing traditional tales from the past.  Her CD 'The Ribbon Maiden and other traditional tales' is available from the Arboretum's gift shop.
