The council’s play schemes are back for 2011. These holiday sessions are for children aged from 5 to 11, and are held at venues across the district.

Taking place Monday to Friday, from 1 to 26 August, the day-long sessions offer children the chance to play games and have a go at art, sports, drama and much more.

The council’s play team is also running sessions for 7 to 13 year olds in August. These include two ‘Wet ‘n’ Wild’ weeks of pond dipping, water fights, den building and bug hunting in Beacon Park, as well as an art week and skateboarding sessions at King Edward VI Leisure Centre.

On top of lots of sporty courses, Burntwood Leisure Centre is holding a holiday club. Running from Monday to Friday each week from 1 August to 26 August, the days will offer 5 to 11 year olds the chance to take part in games, sports, swimming, art and more.

From dodgeball to badminton, Friary Grange and King Edward VI leisure centres are also running plenty of coaching courses and sessions. And, both leisure centres are offering an ‘early bird’ discounted booking price if the sessions are booked by Sunday 10 July.

Beacon Park’s summer events are also in the programme. They include the park’s Fun Day, which is taking place on Thursday 4 August, from 11am to 3pm. The day will feature sports, games and a teddy bears’ picnic – so children are welcome to bring their teddies.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “This year we’ve got lots of sessions and activities to keep children and teenagers entertained over the summer holiday. On top of our daily playschemes and play activity weeks, we’ve got more than 60 holiday clubs, activities and sporty courses at our leisure centres and parks. So, make sure you sign your child up to a summer of fun.”

Thousands of Summer of Fun programmes are being distributed to schools within the district, but, in the meantime, the full programme is online at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/summerfun.

The Summer of Fun programme is also available from Burntwood, Friary Grange or King Edward VI leisure centres or Lichfield District Council’s main reception off Frog Lane.
