Giant posters spring up over the city
Have you noticed the recent proliferation of art across Lichfield and wondered what it was all about? Well, we contacted Lichfield DC and found out what was happening.
Visitors to Lichfield will have spotted a series of enormous posters that have been displayed on buildings across the city.
Local artist Peter Walker has put up the 26 posters, which are 7 feet by 5 feet, on buildings as part of the project 52 Weeks of Art.
The posters, which feature pieces by local amateur and professional artists of all ages, were displayed to coincide with The Lichfield Festival - running from 8 to 18 July.
Artist Peter Walker said: “With thousands of visitors descending on Lichfield to enjoy the many highlights of this year’s festival, I thought it would be a good opportunity to show the wealth of artistic talent we have in Lichfield. These posters are a great conversation point, and make a gallery of the whole city. I hope visitors and residents enjoy looking at them.”
The posters have been displayed on prominent buildings across the city, including: District Council House, Lichfield Garrick, St John’s House, HSBC, Pool House, La Boutique and Keelys Solicitors, as well as around the Fuse Festival.
They are on a variety of themes, but all inspired by Lichfield and famous artists of the 20th century.
Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Councils Cabinet Member for Tourism said: “We thought this was an exciting project and were delighted to be a part of it. The posters add a splash of colour to the city, and I expect they are inspiring lots of debates by city residents, workers and visitors.”
52 Weeks of Art is supported by Arts Council England and is Lottery Funded.
