Lichfield District Council has launched its autumn half term holiday programme that is packed with Halloween themed treats and lots of active sessions to keep boredom at bay.

The council’s Getin2it sessions for young people aged from 7 to 25 will run over the half term week and include archery, multi sports, trampolining, dance and parkour, plus new basketball and football sessions. Most sessions cost just £1 and do not need to be booked.

A highlight of the week are Halloween fancy dress themed UV sports sessions at Burntwood Leisure Centre on Wednesday 31 October. It costs £2 a session and will include a wide range of sports all in glow in the dark surroundings and in spooky costumes! The first session at 2pm is for 7 to 11 year olds and the second one at 3.30pm is for 12 to 16 year olds.

Over at Beacon Park, families can follow a Halloween puzzle trail every day from 13 October to 4 November. There are two sets of clues, one for little ones and slightly harder clues for older children. Trails are available from the Ranger Station between 10am and 3pm for £1.50 each with a LAP and £2 without.

During half term week, children can have a go at making a handheld mini lantern using willow, tissue paper, glue and a battery powered tea light. The workshops will run at the park’s Discovery Hub each day from Saturday 27 to Tuesday 30 October at 10am, 11.30am and 1.30pm. Each workshop costs £3 for LAP members and £3.50 for everyone else. A place on the mini lantern workshop also includes entry to Beacon Park’s mini lantern parade on Halloween itself. Setting off from the tennis courts at 5pm, the parade will see all the lanterns paraded around a dusky park. Children will also get to spot Halloween characters along the way and treated to the story of Gilbert the Ghost. It costs £1 if bringing a lantern that hasn’t been made at one of the park’s workshops, but there must be no naked flames and bringing a torch along is recommended.

Councillor David Leytham, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “We’ve got plenty of treats on offer for children and young people this autumn half term. It can be difficult to get young people away from their screens, so having a go at our Getin2it sessions in Lichfield and Burntwood, or taking part in a park activity, is a good way to get them out of the house and engaged in positive activities.”
