The school holidays are about to begin and when I started running my own business I had thought, great, this is what real flexible working is all about. Fit the kids around the work, fit the work around the kids, muddle along and everybody's happy. Oh how naive I was! No customer wants to hear your kids arguing over the remote, while you discuss the local economic climate with them. Likewise the kids are less than impressed when you keep answering the phone while you're supposed to be playing schools with them (why, when they've just broken up from a long and tiring year do little girls immediately start playing schools?)
But don't panic there are some great local businesses offering some light relief if only for a few hours.
Don't forget to take the kids to visit the Knife Angel on display near the bus station until the 31st July, offering an important message to young people.
From this Friday through to September you can enjoy the beach right here at Lichfield Cathedral, what's more it's free to attend. Plus there are craft classes to occupy the little ones too.
If you have family or friends visiting this summer to the National Memorial Arboretum, then don't miss their interactive summer activity, A New World. It will certainly have the kids running around hunting for clues.
Starting on Monday for the next 6 weeks is the Summer keeper Club from our friends at Burntwood Alpaca & Animal Experiences. Fantastic if your children love animals. Booking essential.
Take up the offer of FREE places at the Getin2it activities across the district this summer.
Then of course it wouldn't be summer without fruit picking would it? Manor Farm Fruits have plenty to offer the whole family, whether you PYO or buy from their shop, you will be treated to an array of summer fruits. Plus to celebrate their 50th year of PYO they have designed a Maize Maze in the shape of a cake! Booking highly recommended.
We will keep you updated as soon as we hear of any new events but if you're planning an event please let us know.
Have a great summer break everyone.
I am passionate about 'Buying Local' and supporting our local businesses to 'keep the pound' in town, to help grow our economy here in Lichfield.
