It was a delight to be in the audience for the opening night of The Lady Vanishes with husband and wife Juliet Mills and Maxwell Caulfield leading the star cast in this latest installment of the Classic Thriller Theatre Company.
I'm a huge whodunnit fan and knowing the story could settle down to enjoy this production that's been receiving rave reviews on it's UK tour.
This stellar cast didn't disappoint and had the packed audience on the edges of their seats one minute and giggling with laughter the next!
For those of you of a certain age it was great to see Philip Lowrie or should I say Dennis Tanner from Coronation Street (that was probably the last time I saw an episode!) Playing the philandering husband with Elizabeth Payne his mistress Margaret.
Eastenders fans couldn't fail to spot Lorna Fitzgerald as the socialite Iris who with her new friend Max (yes it really is Atticus from Downton,) search the train for her travelling companion Miss Froy.
I loved the cricket references made by Charters (Robert Duncan) and his sidekick Caldicott (Ben Nealon,) typical of that era and everything must stop for the cricket! Mind you growing up in our house everything always stopped for the cricket.
Juliet Mills was enchanting and showed no signs of her long standing career playing alongside her husband Maxwell Caulfield as the sinister Dr Hartz.
Beware of the loud whistles from the station porter (Mark Carlisle) and the impressive 'bark' of the SS offical (Joe Reisig.)
This production of The Lady Vanishes is well worth a visit.
