Peter Walker produces work of international significance including powerful sculptures, absorbing paintings and drawings as well as installation pieces and son et lumieres. With over fifteen public statues located around the country and works in private and public collections worldwide his reputation grows.
Born in the area with a great passion to bring his years of learning and expertise back to where it all began, Peter Walker is keen to see support for the visual arts grow for the benefit of the local community and visitors to the area, but especially to offer more creative opportunity to the younger generation.
The artist is known locally for several sculptures including the Erasmus Darwin monument in Beacon Park, the ‘Formation of Poetry’ at Greenhill Mews and the ‘Miner and Pony’ statue at Sankey’s Corner, Burntwood. He has recently been commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Lichfield Cathedral to produce a new statue for the cathedral depicting Saint Chad, and has founded the city’s very first Sculpture Trail as part of the ‘City of Sculpture Project TM’.
A selection of Peter’s work now returns to his place of birth here in Lichfield for a short period for viewers to see as a collection.
Peter comments: “It is a delight to exhibit my work in the place I am from. Emporium gallery is a treasure in the heart of Lichfield that enables art lovers to have access to such an important part of our culture. Very few galleries are run by experts in their field, but the team at Emporium have spent years in the city supporting the visual arts and bringing local and national artists to the area, and developing a truly unique offer for Lichfield. Over recent years there has been an upturn in the number of people acquiring original art, seeing the enjoyment in owning and living with a one off piece. I have clients around the world, but to bring a collection of artwork to my hometown is fantastic.”
The exhibition entitled ‘Through the Artist’s Eyes’ is twinned with Peter’s exhibition at Lichfield Cathedral and incorporates work from several collections, featuring works of ink on paper, oil landscapes and bronze sculpture.
The exhibition will run from 7August to 9 September 2015 at Emporium, Bird Street Lichfield with an opportunity for advanced viewing on 7th August 2015 when the gallery will remain open until 7pm.
I am passionate about 'Buying Local' and supporting our local businesses to 'keep the pound' in town, to help grow our economy here in Lichfield.
