Walk to school …. It’s healthier!

As part of international walk to school month, Staffordshire County Council hopes to improve health and cut traffic congestion in Lichfield and Burntwood by urging parents to encourage children to walk to school.

Figures reveal that just 46% of children walk to school, while campaigners Living Streets say research shows pupils who walk are more alert in the classroom.

So what are the other benefits of walking to school?

  • With obesity rising, children need at least an hour of physical activity per day, walking to school will really help towards this
  • Walking through “greener” spaces and away from traffic helps children feel calmer and happier
  • Children who are physically active show more concentration and focus in the classroom
  • Whilst walking to school you can teach your child road safety skills

Live too far away from school to walk?  Then why not park and stride!
