Lichfield Cathedral School Appoints Music Fellow

Lichfield Cathedral School has announced the appointment of Mr Richard Yarr MBEas the School’s Music Fellow. In this new role, Richard will work with the music department’s academic and performance staff to profile the breadth of their work, deliver new initiatives and create landmark events of national interest. 

Richard is one of the UK’s most respected music professionals. Most notably, he created the highly successful Northern Ireland International Organ Competition in 2011; leads the Charles Wood Festival of Music and Summer School, alongside Patron John Rutter and Artistic Director David Hill; and has worked at a senior level for the BBC since 2000. As an educator he advises The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment in Northern Ireland and adjudicates widely. Richard was awarded an MBE for Services to Music in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Birthday Honours. 

Speaking of the appointment Richard said:

“I have been hugely impressed by the breadth of School’s musical life and the passion of its staff and pupils. Its impact is tangible not only in the city and its glorious cathedral, but also beyond the locality. I look forward to shining the spotlight on the School’s considerable assets and to developing new chapters in the Lichfield story.”

Richard will commence as Music Fellow in the new academic year.
