Lichfield Cathedral School are celebrating excellent A Level results, highlighting yet another year of exceptional academic and personal achievements.

Headteacher Susan Hannam said: “I am incredibly proud of our students. These excellent results demonstrate their resilience in the face of a disrupted education and we must remember that these are the first public examinations they have taken. Our students have risen to all challenges that have been presented to them, as have their teachers and all members of the school community. The continuity of education provided by the school over the last two years has certainly played its part. I couldn’t be more delighted for these youngsters, or more thankful to their teachers.”

Deputy Head, Andrew Harrison, added: “This year’s A Level and BTEC results recognise our commitment to enable all our students to achieve their academic potential, whilst our headline figures continue to build on the successes of our pre-COVID years (2019).  21% of students achieved A* and Distinction*, while 44% of students achieved A*/Distinction* to A/Distinction, and the school’s record of a 100% pass rate was maintained.

There were some outstanding results achieved by individuals. George Gabriel and Benjamin Evans both achieved A*A*A*, and Ben will progress to King’s College London to study History and Political Economy. Matthew White, an exceptional golfer, achieved A*AA and will be studying a four-year Masters course in Psychology at Nottingham University.  Henry Vernon achieved A*A*A and will be moving on to Bath University to study Maths. Eilidh Owen, who had already achieved A*A*A* last year and took a year out to work with the school’s MusicShare programme, also gained an A Level in Music Technology, completing the course in one year and will now study Music at Oxford University.

In addition to impressive academic results, the Cathedral School students have benefited from a wonderful array of leadership opportunities and exceptional co-curricular experiences, achieving admirable success across a full range of sporting, cultural and artistic activities.  Susan Hannam added: “Cathedral School students leave us prepared for university, for the workplace and for later life.  While grades are important, I am most proud of the compassion they have for friends and family, their confidence for their careers, and for their determination to make a positive difference in the world.”
