The new coordinators, Ian Wildy, Kay Greenbank and Tony Harper, will manage a team of thirty census collectors who will visit local homes from early April to help people complete and return their census questionnaires. The team will also be working closely with places like care homes and hospitals, to ensure all residents are included.
From early March local houses will begin receiving their census questionnaires, which can either be completed and posted back, or for the first time can be completed online.
Alyson Thomson, Census Area Manager, commented: “This year's census is going to be the biggest one yet, and it's really important that everyone completes their questionnaire. The information collected in the census helps to plan vital services like hospitals, housing, roads and emergency services. It also impacts on the amount of funding a local area gets, so it's important that everyone takes part. It's really easy to fill in your census questionniare, and you can even do it online. Our census team will also be on hand to help anyone who needs it."
If anyone has does not complete their census questionnaire on or before Census day on 27 March, they will receive a visit from the local census team who will be able to provide replacement questionnaires, incase anyone has lost theirs. They will also offer assistance to anyone who needs help filling in their form.
Alison Thomson added: "It's really exciting that the census coordinators are now on board, and it marks the countdown to census day on 27 March."
Amongst the local coordinators is Ian Wildy, who has been involved in several previous census. Ian commented: “I worked as a special enumerator in the 1971 census and had to deliver all the questionnaires by hand, pushing my trolley round the area. I also remember being paid £110 for four weeks work. Things have moved on a little in the last forty years.”
Personal information included on the census questionnaire is kept confidential and protected by law.
