Based on the original wartime orchestra The New Squadronaires Orchestra consists of young musicians playing the music of the great swing bands, Bands including Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, as well as some of the original Squadronaires music which have not been played since 1964.
All the musicians are dressed in RAF uniform and the visual appearance of this fabulous orchestra is enhanced with the backdrop of a RAF ensign.
A popular feature of any Squadronaires Orchestra dance was the ‘Squadcats’ and the orchestra features it’s own version of the small group playing the Dixieland music.
The present day bandleader is ex Syd Lawrence Orchestra vocalist Mark Porter, who sings some really smooth vocals along the way.
This performance is presented in association with the National Memorial Arboretum as part of their tenth anniversary celebrations.
The orchestra will be at the Lichfield Garrick from Sunday 5 June at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £19.50, and can be booked from www.lichfieldgarrick.com or by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121.
