It came, we saw, it conquered!
So after months of planning from Lichfield District Council working with all their partners to create a fantastic day here in Lichfield it has finally been and gone.
But what a day it was, from early morning, teams were out checking the route making sure everything that had been planned was in place & nothing was left to chance.
I was due to report to Minster Hall for breakfast & a final briefing at 6.15am & although it was early & it was raining, it didn't dampen the spirit of any of the volunteers who were going to make this a day to remember.
My post was out at Cricket Lane & Quarry lane in fact the last stop before the Olympic Torch made it's way by bus to Hopwas & Tamworth. We were soon wlecoming the crowds from about 8am and making sure they were in good voice & ready to give the torch a great send off from Lichfield.
Everyone was in great spirits & really excited about what was for many, their only chance to be part of London 2012. There were whole famillies who had decided to turn out to cheer & show their support and make a day of it.
As the crowds got bigger the time finally came when we saw the lead vehicles from Samsung & Coca Cola encouraging more cheering & flag waving & we knew we didn't have long to wait.
It was truly a surreal moment when I first caught a glimpse of the torch & I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming, but no I was actually watching the Olympic Torch on day 43 of it's historic journey.
Definitely a day I won't forget & it was an honour & a priviledge to be part of Team Lichfield, I will wear my hoodie with tremendous pride.
Many congratulations to all involved for a superb well organised event.
Thanks go to Amy Carnell & Aimee Clegg for the photos.
