16th September 2011

Ruth Witczak, Beacon Park’s Community and Education Officer, is inviting people who are interested in moths to come to a free Moth Recording Morning at Beacon Park.

Taking place on Thursday 22 September 2011 at 8.30am, the session involves identifying all the moths that have been caught in a trap left overnight at the Lichfield city park.

Ruth said: “This is the last Moth Recording Morning of the year, so we’re hoping plenty of people will take this opportunity to help us identify the park’s beautiful moths. We will be sending our records to the county recorder, to allow scientists to track any changes in populations over time. So, please do come along to this September session to help us record the moths and to find out more about these fascinating insects.”

Moths that have been seen at the monthly sessions so far include: Poplar Hawk Moth, Peppered Moth, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Uncertain and Buff Ermine.

Everyone is welcome at the Moth Recording Morning - simply come to Beacon Park’s main pavilion at 8.30am on Thursday 22 September 2011.

Before setting off to the park, check that enough moths have been caught overnight by calling 07931891086 from 8am on the day.

All the moths will be released after the event.
