Lichfield District Council and Taylor Wimpey Midlands have now completed the Sainte Foy Avenue play area and exercise hub.

The £28,000 section 106 funding, has helped to develop the play area that also includes a multi-use games area for football and basketball, an outdoor gym featuring toning equipment, and a small cycle track.

The development also includes an area for skateboarding, with a skateboard ramp expected to be developed at a later stage.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said: “This is just the type of project that section 106 funding is meant for, as it will become a focal point for the local people and is already making a big difference to community life.”

Anne Wallace, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, commented: “We’re committed to supporting the local communities in which we build and are delighted to be able to help provide facilities that the whole community can enjoy.”

Staffordshire County Council’s Highways Department is installing a toucan crossing, which caters for pedestrians and cyclists, across Sainte Foy Avenue later this month, so until the new crossing is ready please take extra care when crossing the road.

Although it is now open for anyone to use, Lichfield District Council and Taylor Wimpey will officially open Sainte Foy’s new recreation area in January 2011, when all the elements are complete.

For those who are not sure, Section 106 agreements are made when a large development is approved in the district and there is a need to provide associated social and community facilities. The district council negotiate with the developers, who agree to contribute to the delivery of schemes. The council then distributes the funding to local projects.
