Lichfield Community Games was held at Beacon Park on 18 and 19 September. The weekend event saw more than 1,500 people of all ages come along and try a variety of sports and activities.
From soft archery and badminton, to boxing and squash, there were plenty of activities to try. Hundreds of medals were awarded for various races, which culminated in a giant tug of war.
Dennis Kennedy, from Inspire Activity, said: “We had a great time at this year’s Games and some brilliant feedback from local people and from the clubs that showcased their activities.
“The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games team joined us on the Sunday and added the final piece of magic along with their mascot Perry who everyone loved.
“We can’t wait for 2022 and our return once more to Beacon Park.”
Councillor Iain Eadie, Cabinet Member responsible for Parks & Leisure, said: “I am delighted Lichfield Community Games were such a success and it was wonderful to welcome the team from the Commonwealth Games roadshow.
“The event was a brilliant way for all the family to try a whole range of activities that are available across the district, and then match them with sports clubs where we hope their initial interest can develop into regular activity.
“Well done to everyone who was involved and congratulations to all the medal winners out there.”
On top of the Commonwealth Games roadshow, the event saw lots of organisations and clubs showcase their activities, including Active Lichfield, Freedom Leisure, Happy Healthy Cycling, Moo Music, Tennis MicroSports, Beggars Oak Clog Dancers, Rugby Tots, Lichfield Swimming Club, Silhouette Dance Academy, BFAB Dance, Urban Boxing, British Canoeing, Staffordshire FA, Vision School of Dance and Mini Athletics Lichfield.
Lichfield Community Games was organised by Inspire Activity, in partnership with Lichfield District Council and community partner, Central England Co-operative.
