Several of our businesses have been awarded the 5* rating from Rate my Place which highlights that not only are they wowing their customers but also they meet excellent hygeine standards.

We all have our favourites & we love to 'spread the word' about the ones that you love here in Lichfield.

Just thought you would like to know how they are awarded.

The food hygiene rating website for Staffordshire is re-launching as part of Food Safety Week

The website, www.ratemyplace.org.uk, which has been helping people for the last six years to find whether food businesses right across Staffordshire have good hygiene standards, re-launched with a brand new and improved site during Food Safety Week (11 to 17 June).

Lichfield District Council, in partnership with other Staffordshire councils has redesigned the website to tie it in with the Food Standards Agency’s national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

Instead of stars for good practice, the council’s food safety inspectors are now awarding businesses a rating of between 0 and 5, with 5 being very good.

The ratings across England, Wales and Northern Ireland are available online at www.food.gov.uk/ratings. They can also be found at www.ratemyplace.org.uk, which has the detailed hygiene reports on food premises across Lichfield District and Staffordshire as well.

Councillor Ian Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Environmental Protection, said: “We know that visitors to local cafes, restaurants and bars like to see the reports of what our food inspectors have found on their visits. This is why we have re-launched the Rate my Place website, so that it links in with the national scheme, while keeping the function to download our food safety experts’ reports.”

The website is also a useful resource for food businesses, as it gives customers information about where eateries are, what type of food they serve, as well as a map and directions to help hungry diners to find them.

Rate my Place is also available on mobile phones that have access to the internet. Anyone wishing to quickly search for a restaurant or cafe, while out and about, can simply visit www.ratemyplace.org.uk

Rate my Place is a partnership between local authorities across Staffordshire who publish details of food safety inspections across the county. The scheme is led by Lichfield District Council, supported by Stafford Borough Council, South Staffordshire Council, East Staffordshire Borough Council, Cannock Chase District Council, Tamworth Borough Council, Newcastle under Lyme District Council, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, High Peak Council and Staffordshire County Council.
