Sam is one of only three students chosen by Unite Students, the student accommodation provider, to join their team of riders on the 1,052 mile journey from 27 February to 9 March.

Sam, 21, from Tamworth, is currently studying business management at Coventry University, where he is the president of the cycling club as well as a working in a bike shop at weekends.

Sam said: “I have been lucky enough to be accepted onto the Unite Students’ JOGLE ride in aid of Sport Relief 2016 which supports charities in the UK and all over the world. As the set off date gets closer, I get more nervous about how big the challenge is actually going to be! At the same time, I’m extremely excited to do it and have a real good go at raising money for those in need.”

Susan Hannam, head teacher at the Cathedral School, added: “We are incredibly proud of Sam – first, that he was selected to be involved in the ride, and second, that he continues to embody our core values of leadership and service. This is an amazing opportunity for Sam and we will be cheering him all the way!”

Each student rider is aiming to raise £1,052 – a pound for each mile they are cycling – for Sport Relief. So far Sam has raised 40% of his target. If you would like to support Sam, simply go to online to his Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/SamButcherJOGLE/
