Join this Sponsored Swim for Charity
The swimathon is taking place on Saturday 28 April, from 6pm to 9.30pm and on Sunday 29 April from 8.30am to 12 noon. The Swimathon Weekend is open to all ages and abilities, and will include 5k and 2.5k challenges, as well as a 5k team distance challenge.
With swimmers wanting to get in training for the swimathon, Friary Grange Leisure Centre is taking the opportunity to remind everyone that it is running a special offer on swimming.
Whether you want to swim the ultimate Swimathon 5k for Marie Curie Cancer Care, or want to swim a shorter distance as part of the Big Splash Team Mile for Sport Relief, the Swimathon Weekend has a challenge for you. In a momentous year of sport, make 2012 the year you take on a challenge, by entering the world’s biggest fundraising swim at swimathon.org.
The money raised by taking part on the Swimathon Distance Challenges for Marie Curie Cancer Care will help support Marie Curie Nurses, who provide free nursing care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses. Money raised for the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief will be spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives - both in the UK and across the world's poorest countries. Swimming is a great form of exercise, and is relaxing for the mind and body. Swimming also helps to build endurance, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness.
For those who prefer to cheer on from the sidelines, they can still do their bit by sponsoring local people who are taking part in the Swimathon Weekend by going to ‘sponsor a swimmer’ on swimathon.org.
