The theme for 2015 Lichfield Heritage Weekend is “Making History” and you’ll find lots of activities celebrating Lichfield’s past and present.
Here’s what’s happening ….
Heritage Weekend at Lichfield Library - 10:00am until 3:30pm. Activities include vintage craft session, Making History Lichfield Map and Making History Monoprinting Taster with Artist Naomi Greaves.
Huddlesford Heritage Gathering at Huddlesford Junction, 10am to 5pm - The Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust biennial gathering of historic boats, floating traders, private boats, and dozens of classic vehicles, with exhibitors and displays on the field. There’s craft workshops and activities for the kids.
Heritage Weekend at St Mary's - in the Market Square Lichfield - Meet costumed characters including Hector Beane, Master of the Guild of St Mary and founder of the Conduit Lands Trust in the Lichfield Museum. Take part in the children's craft activity using quill pens and more.
Samuel Johnson's 306th Birthday - at The Birthplace Museum includes arts, craft and a FREE piece of cake (whilst stocks last)
Lichfield Waterworks Trust Exhibition - 10am to 3pm – go along and see a collection of photographs and posters to complement the water walks with volunteers from Lichfield Waterworks Trust in attendance.
Lichfield Waterworks Trust Winter Walks (no booking required) - walks include Stowe & Minster Pools at 10.30am, Sandfields Pumping Station at 12.30pm and Hanch Tunnel at 2.30pm.
Lichfield Green Badge Guided Tours - 11am to 12pm
Mini Well Dressing at the Market Square - 10am to 1:30pm - FREE children's craft activity, make and dress your own clay well to take home.
Lichfield Record Office Treasures Day - A display of original records and behind the scenes tours. There will also be a Family History surgery where staff will give one-to-one advice. Tour times: 10.30am, 11.30am 12.30pm and 1.30pm
Open Cells for Heritage Weekend - See original cells, meet the people of the prison and find out about law and order in bygone Lichfield.
Wade Street Church Open Day, 10am to 4pm. Visit this Georgian Non-Conformist chapel with original box pews and discover how the church has been making history for over 200 years.
Dr Johnson Birthday Celebration in the Market Square, 12pm to 1pm - Civic ceremony and wreath laying on the Johnson Statue, including local school musicians and choristers
Heritage Weekend - Erasmus Darwin - The Inventor - recreate Erasmus Darwin the Inventor. Make his flying bird, Design and race a carriage, Follow the Lunar Inventor's trail and enjoy homemade cake and refreshments in our Georgian tearoom. 19th and 20th September
Design your own family seal @ Beacon Park - The Martyrs’ Plaque in Beacon Park shows Lichfield’s city seal. Go and find out about the plaque and get creative by designing your own family seal. Drop in 11 to 3pm.
