More than 10,000 people gathered for this 24th Proms where they were entertained by The City of Lichfield Concert Band playing a mix of popular classics, medleys, jazz and film scores, and The British Police Symphony Orchestra whose programme included music from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific.

Picnics and liquid refreshment were enjoyed, and flags were waved at the event which culminated in rousing renditions of Proms favourites Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance No 1.

Once again Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park was a huge success which brought families and friends together for an evening of al fresco fun.

The event, which is free to attend, would not take place, however, without the support of its generous sponsors including Platinum Sponsor Zest Education, In-Form Solutions, James Dean Events, Morespace4U, Rotary Club of Lichfield St Chad, BHB Architects, Strongs Plastic Products Ltd, Lichfield Chamber of Trade and Commerce, RHP Computer Solutions, Beacon Street Garage, Wilcox Refinishers and Keelys Solicitors.

Lichfield District Council wishes to thank each of them together with Lichfield City Council and Swinfen Broun Trust for providing grant funding.

Lichfield District Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks and Major Projects, Councillor Andy Smith, said: “Proms marks the end of summer and does so in style. It is always very popular, and this year was no exception and I’m delighted that so many people came along and enjoyed themselves.

“I would like to thank our sponsors, the musicians, the compere Danny Mizon, and everyone who made this event possible including Lichfield District’s Parks Team and all who supported in the setting up of the event and tidying up afterwards. I’m already looking forward to next year!”
