Using LinkedIn to help you get a better job?

If you’re a job seeker using LinkedIn as a platform to find the right job, there are certain things that just won’t go in your favour and should be removed ….

  • The fact that you are unemployed – you may not be working at the moment but try and use keywords in your headline that tell people what you are looking for in your next job.  It is highly unlikely that potential employers will search for “unemployed”.

  • An inappropriate photograph – use a professional picture of yourself that will appeal to employers. A bad picture or a selfie will only distract people away from your profile and won’t say much about you as a person/brand.

  • Dishonest statements – don’t lie or exaggerate about employment or qualification achievements as you’ll come unstuck during interview and you never know who will be on the interview panel.  It’s so easy to check everything these days!

  • Overused words – try and use specific words that really match your personality. Creative, passionate, motivated are generic words that many people use. Instead of using these, tell potential employers exactly why you would fit into a certain job in your own words that really describe you.

  • Out of date information – update your LinkedIn profile regularly and never have out of date information.

  • The third person – don’t talk in the third person, LinkedIn is the perfect place to be real and show people your personality.. so do it!!!

Good luck in the finding the right job! Hope this helps!
