Beautiful very impressive Cathedral with 3 spires (one of only two in England).
Chapter House has a book from the 7th century.

We came across this beautiful gothic building by chance while staying in Lichfield for a few days.

It is a magnificent building with a unique and fascinating history to it.

The volunteers who run it are extremely knowledgeable and very approachable.
When we visited there were several school parties who appeared to have been booked in for a cultural day to learn about the historical background of the church and the area.
They were as quiet as mice! That's how fascinating it is!

There are the usual facilities of gift shop and coffee shop adjacent to the church, but this has been done with the greatest of respect to the spiritual nature of the building and it's history.

Well worth a visit.

As far as cathedrals go, this one is more beautiful on the inside than the outside, due to it being built of sandstone and had a bit of weather erosion. Admission was free, however I felt a donation was well deserved to help preserve this beautiful historic building

There were cathedral staff present who were very approachable and willingly gave a history lesson with regards to the cathedral. There was plenty to see, such as part of the Staffordshire Saxon hoard and St Chad's gospels etc. Well worth a visit and not far from Lichfield centre.

A real treasure to visit this beautiful place; not the most attractive on the outside but, with all its history, a truly wonderful place.
The stewards were exceptionally helpful and not intrusive and the Chapter House a glimpse of history through the ages.
Well done St Chad!!
