Lady on the desk was brilliant, so informative and very enthusiastic about the story of Samuel Johnson and proud of Litchfield. Short 14 min video was an easy watch.

Blackadder introduced Samuel Johnson to many of us! But this 4-storey house had so many interesting artefacts and stories. To see a copy of his first dictionary was wonderful.

What a fascinating museum, a real gem. So much history contained within this little museum at a very exciting and enlightening time in our nation’s history. Definitely a must visit.

I'm not a big reader and everything I know about Dr Samuel Johnson comes from Blackadder, so likely not very accurate. And to be honest, I would probably has passed this little museum by had it not been free. But it is well worth a visit. I was happily surprised by it and I found myself learning more about Dr Johnson than I ever thought I'd have the attention span for. It has tons of information on not only the man himself but the people around him. And it has a nice little book shop at it's entrance, keeping up the buildings tradition as a book shop started by his father. Certainly worth a visit, even if just for a few minutes.

What a fantastic visitor experience at this amazing little house!

I didn't know a lot about Samuel Johnson before the visit - but the very well produced film and the interpretation boards enhanced my knowledge and understanding.

The steward on duty was very friendly and approachable.

Covid security was excellent - although I could imagine some people feeling a little anxious if the museum was busy.

You must visit, it comes highly recommended!

Worth a visit if you've never been before. Got a lovely welcome from the very friendly volunteer as we entered. Loved all the really old rooms! I'm not really ''into'' History but it was a nice little tour all the same. Free entry.

Myself and my partner came here during our lunch breaks and were not disappointed the man behind the counter was very knowledgeable and welcoming. There are a number of floors with various themes and of course a giant dictionary.

We looked up “Things to do in Lichfield” and this popped up. The building is in the centre of the town and the curators have done a really good job to keep it as close to the original. Each of the five floors is themed by period and we learnt a lot about the life of Samuel Johnson from the room he was born in, through to his childhood, his hunger for reading and writing and his eventual rise to fame with his famous dictionary of which there is a copy in the museum. Allow a couple of hours to take it all in. There is no admission charge - payment is by donation. Highly recommended.

The birthplace is located above a bookshop. Leaflet to take you round. Some rooms were interesting, some less so - th actual room where Johnson was born was almost empty of furniture. No real atmosphere. Yet the kitchen and printing rooms were well displayed. Looks like it could do with a make over.
