As someone who lives near Lichfield, I have paid many visits to the cathedral. I go in for some peace and quiet reflection. I am not a particularly religious person but I find that these visits do give me a boost, from the amazing structure itself to the memorials to various people and Staffordshire military units, the small side rooms and perhaps best af all, St Chad's Chapel to be found up some stairs in one of the side walls. There isn't a compulsory charge but a suggested donation to help with the considerable costs involved in the upkeep of this wonderful cathedral. Do visit, you will not regret it.

Visitors to Lichfield must take time to walk around Cathedral Close and view the magnificent cathedral with the three spires. Only Truro Cathedral has a similar structure. 'The Ladies of the Vale' as they are known stand proud above the City overlooking Minster Pool to the South and Stowe Pool. Beacon Park is close by along with the Memorial Gardens. In Cathedral Close you visibly see the old City and recognise how the remainder of the City has developed beyond it. It is the seat of the Bishop of Lichfield and along with Dam Street with its snug coffee shops you are able to walk back in time to feel the warmth of this conservation area.

As a local I have to admit to being slightly biased but I believe Lichfield Cathedral bears comparison with any of the country's other great Cathedrals.

As others have commented the Cathedral is a superb example of gothic architecture and features three spires which can be seen for miles around. The cathedral is set within cathedral close and it is worth a walk around the close to see the other beautiful buildings associated with the Cathedral.

The Cathedral does not charge an entry fee, but suggests a donation of £3. Compare this with a minimum entry fee of £10 to York Minster.

Also because Lichfield Cathedral is not particularly high on the tourist trail it still feels like a cathedral and not some kind of museum.

If you are in the area it is well worth a detour. You won't be disapointed

This is an unusual building with three spires. When we were there a few weeks ago there was a fascinating exhibit of international works of modern calligraphy. The city of Lichfield is well worth a visit.

The building is magnificent both inside and outside. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Take time to walk around and read the history and do take time to sit, think and offer a prayer - it will make you feel a lot better. Then go across the road to the Cathedral Coffee shop - brilliant too.

There was a wooden Cathedral in Lichfield from AD700 and the Christian Faith is embedded into the region. The discovery of the Lichfield Hoard only 500 metres as the crown flies from where I am writing has enhanced the understanding of this area as a hotbed of religious fervour and religious hatred from pagan groups...what's new? I was moved to write something about the Cathedral as it has just received a Trip Advisor award. It is a brilliant focus for the city with a magnificent story to tell. Just Visit and don't forget lichfieldcoachhouse provides excellent accommodation for the visitor.

Great architecture and always accessible as it is not a major tourist spot. Well worth a visit (as is the city as a whole).

Lichfield is a lovely little City and the Cathedral is magnificent inside and out. It is friendly at the best of times but has recently excelled when it became home for the very special occassion of local hero and the inspirational Stephen Suttons's 2 day vigil. Lichfield was aglow with yellow. The Cathedral was the heart of the City and the focal point for the love of the local people and followers of 'Stephen's Story' The Coffe shop and gift shops are in the Catherdral close and there are walks around Stowe pool and Minster pool nearby. Lichfield is close to many midland attractions and would be a great base to explore from.
