Places like this are what you personally make of them. For those who remember particular lost ones, it's a very special and sacred place, as it is for those who visit to remember regiments or events. For those who visit out of curiosity, it is a well set out park with a good visitors centre and cafe appropriate to the numbers there.
It is not a morbid place, as a memorial to military and civilian services it serves to educate and inspire as well as humble us with the sacrifice of others. The memorials are well set out and well cared for, with an emphasis on using trees as living memorials.
I will paraphrase a quote from a display in the centre:
We left the landing craft and ran up the beach. I could see my comrades falling around me. I kept running.
