Originally founded in 1983 to improve the care of local people dying with cancer, St Giles has become one of the leading providers of support for people in our community whose illnesses may not be curable such as cancer, motor neurone disease, heart failure, MS and respiratory disease. St Giles Hospice also offers support for families and helpers.
The hospice's dedicated teams provide individually-tailored care either at the hospice or in patients’ own homes across the community. It costs St Giles £10 million to deliver the care it provides locally each year and there is a growing need for its services.
In 2023 they will be launching 'March of the Elephants' where you will be able to follow the elephants journey throughout Lichfield, Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield.
They are currently looking for sponsors for the elephants to help support the fantastic work they they have been doing for 40 years. For more information download the pdf on the right hand side of this page.
The range of specialist services is provided free of charge to those who need it. Although St Giles receives some funding from the Government, the hospice relies heavily on donations and fundraising.
St Giles organises a wide range of events throughout the year and always welcomes new participants. By getting involved, fundraisers can enjoy an exciting new challenge, meet new people, and do something different with colleagues, friends or family. Hospice events include the popular Cycle St Giles rides, the annual Solstice Walk, Light Up a Life Christmas memorial services, Celebrate Lives Lived, the Tamworth Gate Gallop and the Rudolph Run. St Giles also supports fundraisers taking in other events such as the Great North Run, the London Marathon, and the Great Birmingham Run.
In 1997 the St Giles Hospice Lottery was launched to provide much needed funding towards the cost of care and support services. With thousands of players taking part each year, the lottery has raised more than £15 million over the last 19 years, making it one of the most successful lotteries of its kind. All lottery players receive the St Giles Hospice Lottery Promise Card which can save them around 10% on goods and services at over 150 businesses and shops across the area.
St Giles has a network of 30 charity shops across the region as well as an eBay shop. These include specialist stores selling furniture, bridal wear, accessories and books.
