Today the plans were revealed for Liverpool’s brand new exhibition centre which will be located on the waterfront. The project is expected to cost £40 million and will include hotels, bars, restaurants and halls. Approximately 1300 jobs will be created and it is hoped the centre will host at least fifty events during the first year.
Liverpool’s economy is expected to see a boost according to the City Council Leader Joe Anderson. Mr Anderson stated that in the past they have had to turn away hosting many conferences and that there had been request for a conference centre and exhibition space.
The plans are in the early stages and residents and businesses will be given the chance to give their views before the planning application is submitted. This is expected to be in March 2012 and if all goes to plan the Kings Dock exhibition Centre should be completed by September 2014.
Included in the build will be a privately funded hotel which will house up to 200 guests. This is planned to be very upscale and is aiming to receive a five star award. Mr Anderson hopes that Liverpool will be able to compete with many other major cities and centres of this type all over the country.
