New Liverpool Director of Football Announced
Anfield have decided to give Damien Comolli the position of Director of Football, Mr Comolli has become a solid force behind Liverpool Football club since he was appointed to oversee transfers by the owner John W Henry’s Fenway Sports Group. Now he will have far more power and his main role will now see him being in charge of the clubs football strategies.
This is not the first time he has had this type of role as he was in a similar position during his time at Tottenham Hotspurs. Other jobs have seen him scouting on behalf of Arsenal and while working at Saint-Etienne he was the sporting director.
His career has not always seen him being appreciated by the fans. At Tottenham he, along with Coach Juande Ramos, was held responsible for seeing the club slide down to the bottom of the league tables. After being targeted he left the club back in October 2008. All was not lost however as Spurs are now enjoying some of the signings he made during his time there, including midfielder Gareth Bale.
Henry told the press how Mr Comolli had impressed them with his work ethics, intelligence and incredible knowledge of football. He believes he carries the same working philosophy with the club and that he fully understands what Liverpool needs in the long term.
During the transfer window back in January, Mr Comolli was very active in attracting both Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll to the team. Henry stated that these two players would have significant roles in the future of LFC.
All that is left for the club owners to do is to permanently fill the role of manager. Kenny Dalglish was reported to be close to securing a two year contract as manager last week, but nothing has yet been confirmed.
