Once again this year Santa and his magical sleigh will be seeking out the homes of good little boys and girls living in the Colwyn Bay area, offering festive greetings and a jovial “ho ho ho” to all.  In the run up to Christmas  Colwyn Bay Round Table (CBRT) will be bringing the magic of Christmas to local communities in an effort to both deliver glad tidings and raise funds for deserving local charitable causes.

“For us this is not simply about raising money,” commented Rob Stewart, Director of Richard Williams LTD, “everyone involved gets a huge buzz out of bringing Christmas to all those expectant little faces.  For many the float signals the real start of Christmas and whilst we certainly don’t expect a donation, we’re extremely grateful to those who can afford to contribute to our causes.”

This year Santa will be visiting the Bay View Shopping Centre  on Saturday 3rd December, then following routes through residential areas from Llysfaen to Rhos on Sea, early evenings between the 7th and 21st December:

Santa’s Sleigh is accompanied by “little helpers” from numerous local organisations.  The assistance of  local  Scout Groups and the Colwyn Bay Junior Rugby Club is particularly appreciated along with the time and services kindly given by private companies such as  JH Jones and sons of Old Colwyn who store the sleigh throughout the year and Blackmarsh Motors of Mochdre who ensure the  float’s roadworthiness annually.  In addition Mochdre Peugeot provide Rudolf – the towing vehicle, and Daniel Contractors light up the float with their generator.  The Round Table would like to thank all contributors without whom the float would not be able to operate.

Funds raised are distributed to numerous local causes.  Some of the 2011 beneficiaries include Ysgol Gogarth , Old Colwyn Scout hut appeal, Colwyn Bay Junior Rugby Club and AJ’s Operation Appeal  Fund (www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-aj-the-appeal/226785494028708).  Any local causes wishing to apply for support are invited to contact  CBRT.

The Round Table is an informal organisation run by men aged 18 to 45 from all walks of life.  Members contribute their skills, time and contacts in order to raise money for local causes.  As well as the annual Christmas Sleigh other events include Fireworks nights, balls and other smaller events.  When not raising funds, the Round Table meet every second Monday to partake in recreational events  ranging from Go-Kart racing or Fly Fishing to sailing and BMX-ing.    Round Table member Andy Ellwood (IT Project Manager) said “after moving to the area from Yorkshire the Round Table provided me with an instant social life, some great networking opportunities and an excuse to attempt random sporting or fun events on a bi-weekly basis. This, coupled with the underlying objective to raise money for local causes makes it a worthwhile and valuable past time.”  Colwyn Bay Round Table welcome new members and interested parties can make contact via the website.
