The first ever Suffolk Museum of the Year award was awarded to Lowestoft and East Suffolk Maritime Museum. The awards event celebrating the role of museums in Suffolk, took place in Ipswich on Thursday October 11 2012.
The Lowestoft Maritime Museum is maintained and manned by it's members on an unpaid, voluntary basis. Located in Sparrows Nest Park the premises are grant aided by Waveney District Council.
Suffolk’s museums normally attract more than 390,000 visitors and their volunteers contribute more than 100,000 hours of unpaid work and support every year.
Lowestoft is very lucky to have such a great museum and even more lucky that the members continue to support it.
