Lutterworth Town Band set the mood with a rousing medley of Christmas tunes entitled ‘Christmas is coming’. What followed was well known literary pieces such as ‘Christmas’ by John Betjeman, ‘The Night before Christmas’ and the Dylan Thomas piece, ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’, beautifully read by members of The Wycliffe Drama Group, before music again took centre stage with a delicate and thoughtful rendition of ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ by the local ladies choir, Rockappellas, under the excellent musical direction of Dawn Murray.
Following an interval in which the audience enjoyed a glass of wine and a mince pie, the second half saw the actors, choir and band performing in turn, with standouts being a beautiful Georgian piece entitled ‘Tsminao Gmerto’ and an excerpt from the Aykbourn play, ‘Season’s Greetings’ which brought gales of laughter from the audience.
The evening was brought to a close with the audience singing carols accompanied by Lutterworth Town Band.
The concert was organised by The Lutterworth Rotary Club, with all proceeds being divided between Lutterworth Museum & Lutterworth & District Foodbank. Thanks must go to the performers who gave their services so generously and particularly Richard Hill of Wycliffe Drama Group who devised and hosted the evening.
Shy retiring (!) red-head, working hard to showcase everything great about our town and villages. Loves her son, her man & Bruce Springsteen (but not always in that order!)
