It was, some say, the decade that taste forgot.
Hanging on to the psychedelia of the 60's whilst introducing the joys of sky-high platforms, afro haircuts for all and flares you could house a small family in, the 70's did, however, introduce a huge diversity of musical styles and performances.
Motown continued to dominate, but was joined by numerous teeny bopper idols. Disco was born and by the end of the decade, the Bee Gees had reinvented themselves as one of the greatest disco bands of all time, thanks to their musical contribution to Saturday Night Fever.
Add to that the increasing influence of Bowie, Elton John and Rod Stewart, the emergence of Abba and the Jackson 5 and we can be forgiven for forgetting that this was also the decade that brought us Paper Lace and the Bay City Rollers!
Whatever your 1970's preference, it's likely to be covered at Macclesfield Town FC's 1970's Party Night this Saturday, 17th December 2011. Taking place at the MacIlroy Suite at Moss Rose Stadium in Macclesfield from 7pm, fancy dress is optional but will undoubtedly make it more fun!
