Christmas shoppers in Macclesfield will be in for a surprise this winter as plans were revealed for a huge outdoor ice skating rink in the town centre.
The first of its type in Macclesfield, the rink will be located in the grounds of St Michael's Church in Market Place and surrounded by market stalls and a Christmas grotto.
60ft by 26ft, the rink can host up to 50 skaters at once and will be open from the 10th December.
Mandy Fazelynia, one of the organisers behind the project, explained: "It’s about boosting trade in the town and encouraging families to come back."
"It’s early days, we’re still securing businesses to invest, but it’s game on."
Profits from the ice rink will go towards Macc Future, a local company that funds community events across Macclesfield.
