Macclesfield v. Waterloo
Waterloo visit Priory Park for the first time since their promotion to the National Leagues in the 2003/4 season for what promises to be an entertaining encounter.
The Blundellsands based side with a long history played two seasons thereafter in National 2 before moving up, for one campaign, to National 1 before relegation brought them back to National 2 for two more seasons before they were relegated last season after winning just 4 of their 26 games.
Many notable players have started their careers with Waterloo but clearly the club is going through a transition at present and so far in Two North they have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3 and presently sit third from bottom of the table.
Their games to date have seen them beat fellow strugglers Hull Ionians last Saturday at Blundellsands by 17-12 and in previous weeks they drew with Bradford & Bingley (37-37) and lost out to Fylde (43-31) Huddersfield (41-21) and Leicester Lions (36-7).
Clearly they can score points at one end but are leaking them in defence at the other but in this league every game has to be taken on its merits over 80 minutes on a Saturday afternoon with nothing taken for granted.
No serious injury problems for the Blues at Broadstreet although a few stitches were acquired in the encounter where Street’s discipline let them down (2 yellow & 1 red tells its own story) but Jon Lowdon, Rob McDermott, Fergus Mulchrone & Billy Robinson are still on the side lines pending recovery.
Enjoy your Rugby – I do. See you at Priory Park Saturday.
