4th November 2015

Today more than 100 soldiers, cadets, veterans and volunteers will be joining forces and distributing poppies across the city centre for Manchester Poppy Day. Your donations will enable the British Legion to continue providing support to veterans, servicemen and their families.

11am on Wednesday 11th November marks the 97th anniversary since hostilities were formally ceased, marking the end of four years of the First World War. Remembrance Sunday, which falls on the second Sunday in November each year, will be taking place this coming Sunday on the 8th.

The Poppy Appeal was launched in Manchester on Friday 24th October, when a Greater Manchester veteran, serving soldier and cadet walked through the newly refurbished ‘Soldier’s Gate’ in Manchester Victoria station and presented the first poppies of the North West to Lord Lieutenant, Warren Smith.

Poppies have adorned the Town Hall in Albert Square in preparation for the events that will be taking place over the next week to celebrate and commemorate the efforts made not only by the fallen, but also for those who strive and continue to serve the country today.

See below the local services and events in your area for Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
