Manchester raises the flag for Armed Forces Day

Monday 19 June, the Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Eddy Newman, marked the start of Manchester’s official celebration for Armed Forces Day with the raising of the Armed Forces flag at Manchester Town Hall.

The Lord Mayor was accompanied by Paul Griffiths, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Councillor Tommy Judge Manchester City Council's lead member for Armed Forces, and Major Brad Braddock RA (103 Regiment) as the flag was hosted and flown over Albert Square to a fanfare provided by 103 Lancashire Artillery Volunteer Band.

Manchester joined cities across the country who are all flying the Armed Forces flag in the run up to Armed Forces Day this weekend.

The celebrations for Armed Forces Day will conclude on Saturday 24 June in St Peter’s Square with a host of family friendly activities from 11am-4pm.

Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Eddy Newman, said: “It's a real privilege to be able to honour all servicemen and women on behalf of Manchester and I am looking forward to Saturday’s celebration in St Peter’s Square.

"Armed Forces Day offers Mancunians a chance to show their support and appreciation for all current members and veterans of the Armed Forces, and Saturday's event includes a feast of family friendly activities for all to enjoy."
