Market Harborough has missed out on the first round of the Portas Pilot, with 12 town centres being selected over the weekend.

The 12 selected as the first round winners were:

  • Bedford, Beds
  • Croydon, Gt London
  • Dartford, Kent
  • Bedminster, Bristol
  • Liskeard, Cornwall
  • Margate, Kent
  • Market Rasen, Lincs
  • Nelson, Lancs
  • Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland
  • Stockport, Gt Manchester
  • Stockton on Tees, Teeside
  • Wolverhampton, West Midlands
Mr Shapps praised the exceptional quality of the winning bids, which will each receive a slice of £1.2 million and a tailored package of support from both the Minister and retail guru Mary Portas.

As the quality was so high with over 370 applications, they are launching a second round, with a further 12 pilots to be announced by the end of July.

Fingers crossed for Market Harborough, so watch this space.
