Sorry to contact you in this way and I won't bore you with the details but behind the scenes there has been a great deal of activity on the cinema campaign over the past 12 months. We are now at the stage where a company wants to buy the former Ritz site and develop a 6 screen cinema. The land owners have now also said that they are willing sellers - but it appears that the price they are prepared to accept is higher that the cinema company can afford to pay to make the project viable.
However, if you read the Harborough Mail yesterday it appears that Harborough Council have received a windfall of £1.5 million in funds that could be used for a special project that would benefit the community. To make the cinema project work, we would not need all of this money, but around 1/3 of it would mean that the town would almost certainly have a cinema, new community facilities, a new media training centre and a number of other job creating, businesses PLUS a 6 screen digital state of the art cinema. The funds would 'top up' the millions of private money that would be put into buying and developing the site.
