So here's this week's 'Top Business Tip Tuesday' from The Bestof.
And please, this short article applies to all of us - it's in my locker, and I (and possibly you?) may just need to access it/remind yourself every day, because old habits are difficult to shake off, even when we know they're often wrong for our business.
So, you know the all-too-familiar drill.
You get to work, and you efficiently write down a list of the 10 things you need to do today. (Yes? Are you with me so far?). Well, we can be almost certain that every day, one item on your list is probably worth up to 10 times more than the rest.
But our natural human tendency is to put that specific task off until later, diverting into the easier, 'more enjoyable' or often more mundane tasks.
And you know, we humans invent devilishly clever reasons not to get that one thing done! (Ask your partner!)
So Why Not 'do it–now'! (or at least after you finish reading this article.)
When you allow yourself to become consumed with £10-per-hour ‘busy’ work, you have no time to stop and ask yourself,
“What ‘thing’ should I launch next week that will double my/our sales next year?”
And, I'm sorry but if that question makes you squirm .. good!
In fact, the more disconcerting, the better, because it challenges the status quo.
The thing that could lead to the big cheque surely belongs at the top of the stack!
And to be topical, it reminds me of a quote from that famous Olympic gold medalist rower (Sydney 2000), Ben Hunt-Davis when prioritising the importance of his tasks of the day, he would ask:
"Will it make the boat go faster?"
Hopefully that's food for considerable thought!
With best wishes,
Simon
