The Paint Pottle, located at The Village, St Mary's Road in Market Harborough, has been proudly offering pottery painting for all comers for over a decade, making us one of the most established studios in the area.

We offer plenty of advice and guidance for beginners, and our selection of paints and tools is user-friendly, ensuring a creative and enjoyable experience. While we do offer paint-at-home kits, booking a session at our studio means you'll have access to the expertise of The Paint Pottle team. We’re here to provide inspiration, top-quality brushes and tools, help with any slip-ups, and, of course, we’ll handle all the cleaning up at the end!

Whether you prefer to paint solo or with a group, get in touch via email to explore our options.

Here are our top tips for those new to pottery painting:

1. Have a scroll through our Instagram or Facebook pages, or explore Pinterest to gather inspiration before your visit to the studio.

2. If your design features a white background, there’s no need to paint it white – we dip glaze each piece in a clear coat, which gives it a glossy, food-safe finish.

3. Roughly sketch your design on the pottery using felt-tip pens. These are water-based, so they burn away in the kiln and won’t affect the paint or glaze.

4. For a smooth, even, and opaque result, especially on larger areas or layered colours, we recommend applying three coats of each colour.

5. Use our handy colour guides to see what your final colours will look like once fired – the paints dry much lighter than their final shade.

6. Made a mistake? Don’t worry! The paints we use can be easily wiped off before firing.

7. If you’d like to create detailed designs, consider trying the sgraffito technique. For more creative ideas and techniques, ask us at the studio.

8. While you can use acrylics to paint pre-glazed pottery, bear in mind that this method isn’t food-safe or as durable as kiln-fired pottery.

9. All of our pottery and paints need to be kiln-fired, which ensures your piece is long-lasting, food-safe, and dishwasher-friendly.

Whether you're an experienced pottery painter or a newbie, you will be made very welcome, so please come in and see us for a chat.
