Cancer Reasearch UK and Rotary Charities

I've just got back from another training run - they don't get any easier. I'm training for 2 events at the moment.

The first one is on Sunday 15 June. I'm doing a 100km cycle ride to raise money for Rotary Charities. This should be a great event. As a member of the Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray, I helped marshall the event last year. It is organised by Colin Clews of CiCLE Classic, who does a fantastic job, helped by the local Rotary Club. There is a choice of 30km, 100km and 180km routes. Although I was marshalling last year, I did go and ride the 30km route the following weekend - a great route, including some offroad - and hardly any traffic at all - Colin certainly must have a great local cycle route knowledge to be able to put such a route together. Anyone interested in riding the event, then click here to get an entry form from Colin's website. It's a while since I've ridden 100km so I know I'll find it hard work. Anyone who is willing to sponsor me, please email me at meltonmowbray@thebestof.co.uk. All money gratefully received. It will go to Rotary Club Charities - to learn more about the great work that Rotary does, then click here.

The second event is the 5km 'Race for Life' raising money for Cancer Research UK, encouraging women everywhere to run. Although I'm a cyclist (although usually a cycletourist or mountainbiker) I've not run anywhere since secondary school and I have to admit I've found the training hard due to injury problems of trying to do too much too soon....I didn't realise that once you hit 40 you can't just go out and run a few miles. I'm running the race at Castle Donnington on Wednesday 2 July (there are loads of events going on all over the country, click here for more details) and am with a team from Hathern Band - click here for a link to their website (I play euphonium in their Concert Brass Band). If anyone is willing to sponsor us for Cancer Rsearch UK, then you can do so online at http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/hathernband .

It would be good to hear from anyone else doing these events or any other similar event in the local area.
