Some have feathers, others fur or perhaps scales. Some crawl, creep, hop, jump, slither or fly. Letʼs be honest, theyʼre generally things we donʼt want around. Iʼm talking of course about pests.

Not many of us like to even think about it, but we have to and for those with restaurants or in the food trade, one especially important contract is that of Pest Control!

There is a legal duty under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 and the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 to keep premises free from infestation.

The law requires that food premises are designed to prevent pest access and harbourage and that where necessary screening is provided to prevent a risk of infestation and/or contamination. Refuse stores must be designed and managed in such a way as to enable them to protect against access by pests. Adequate procedures must be in place to ensure pests are controlled with regard to all food that is handled, stored, packaged, displayed and transported. Local authorities do have the power to close establishments infested by pests.

But before you squish, stomp or spray your pests, itʼs important to know your options for successful pest management. There is a wide variety of methods available, and more and more, there are non-chemical methods that can be as effective and convenient as chemical alternatives.
Good management and monitoring will lead to an early identification of pests and prevent infestations becoming established.
Fortunately, thereʼs a series of steps to help prevent pest activity and handle small problems before they become infestations, with proper identification of the pest coming first. Of course, this requires the knowledge of your local pest control contractor or expert.

The Best of Melton Mowbray recommends P Cox Pest Control. Based in Hickling, near Melton Mowbray, Phillip Cox is a local authority trained Pest Controller with over 20 years experience. He is able to offer a pest control service available as a one off or contract basis for all types of premises; including Catering, Agricultural, Commercial and Domestic. It doesnʼt matter what the pest is, whether itʼs wasps, ants, flies, fleas, cockroaches, rats, mice, moles, squirrels, or rabbits! P Cox Pest Control will also screen proof and repair all pest entry points where this is required.

Why choose Phillip Cox?

  • He uses a diagnostic and preventative approach to pest control
  • He spends time to enable correct insect or other pest identification
  • He looks closely at the specific problem not only to kill the current problem, but more importantly to prevent a reoccurrence (e.g. location of entry points)
  • He is happy to work in an advisory capacity

If flies are the issue, then Phillip also sells an impressive range of electronic fly killers. These are a discrete way of killing flies but are made to look like a light and are suitable for domestic kitchens and front of house in restaurants
