People have a stereotypical view of our city and I believe it's very short sighted and a little ignorant.
If people took the time to look around in between each of the round-abouts they hate so much they would probably be surprised at what they find. Also when I normally reply to their ill informed statement or closed question with 'If you must comment, our grid system is unique in the United Kingdom and was designed so the roads run inbetween habitabted areas rather than through them. This facilitates higher speed limits as there are no buildings close to the roads and is much safer for residents.' Needless to say they either shut up at this point or reply with something like 'Actually that's quite a good idea'.
I could go on to reel off the fantastic green areas, great buildings, feats of innovation and rate of growth our little area of the world is still achieving but I don't want to feel like I'm showing off.
The real thing that makes this place so great is the people. I wish we could change the stigma that comes with the name but I don't think we can do that quickly or easily. We just need to stay on the same course that we are currently on and we'll continue to grow and thrive.
