It isn’t just our homes filling up with trends that wholeheartedly embrace the joys of spring, our offices are too, with a few unique spring trends emerging to dominate the usual fare of flowers and rainbow bright colours.
This year, most of these trends seem to have taken a more subtle, muted approach and even border on the industrial. But that doesn’t mean they don’t embrace the vitality of spring in other ways…
Take a look at the roundup below to find out how you can make the most of your office design this season!
When you think of the colours of spring the first tones that come to mind involve bright yellows, greens and pinks that remind us tulips and daffodils. This year however, things have gone altogether more muted.
Earthier shades of yellow and green like the ones seen here and, even more popularly, mushroom browns are dominating many offices this spring. You don’t have to go mad with them though, simply using them to create a colourful feature wall or buying office furniture and accessories in these tones is enough to give your workspace a more energising atmosphere.
Spring is the time of year when everything around us comes back to life, which is a source of inspiration that office designers haven’t let slip past their radar.
While plastic or plain white desks make way for wooden surfaces that look like they’ve been hewn direct from a forest, other spaces incorporate nature in the different textures that dominate their working area. Rough cut marble or stone accessories, metal accents and even wall panels made up entirely of brick or real plants are beginning to dominate many offices. Parliament in Portland has gone so far as to include a wall made from lumber in their office design.
One of the glaring office design trends this spring is the incorporation of sustainable, eco-friendly décor that’s both attractive and functional.
While many offices have taken inspiration from nature to get across their advocacy of all things green (including areas of turf and the incorporation of exotic plants), others are bringing in recyclable office furniture and environmentally friendly office supplies. Nothing of Amsterdam use this trend to great effect by having an office made up entirely of cardboard!
While spring office colours might be leaning towards the more neutral side of the spectrum, incorporating flashes of strategically placed colour is still on the agenda for many offices. It adds something of an element of fun, making you appear more approachable to whoever enters and motivating employees with welcoming surroundings.
Whether incorporated in the form of office furniture, a feature wall, accessories like a bookcase or in a piece of wall art, flashes of colour are the perfect way to illustrate what kind of business you are. Why not take a bit of inspiration from the Skype office?
Walls are often an office element that gets overlooked from season to season. While they're sometimes treated to a new coat of paint or updated with patterned wallpaper, many office designs this season are starting to include a unique piece of wall art instead.
What you choose to adorn your walls with all depends on your company culture and branding, but 3D company logos, quirky posters and prints in more formal frames and even colourful paintings or abstract patterns all make for interesting focal points.
The industrial trend is one that’s increasingly popular in both domestic environments and working offices, and continues to remain a prominent theme this spring.
A little more daring than the office design trends listed above, taking inspiration from industry creates a bold working environment that, if suited to your business, speaks volumes about your modern and forward thinking ethos. Just take a look at Ubiquitous Manufacturing Company to see what I mean.
If you’re brave enough, trade your office furniture in for products made of dark wood, fit trendy filament lightbulbs and track down accessories made from glamorous brass. Even something as small as a brass lamp can add industrial luxury and prestige to your workspace.
When spring is all about new beginnings, it’s no surprise that such a diverse range of office design trends emerge to suit workspaces of every ethos and industry, and even rebrand those that are looking a little spent.
There really is something for everyone this season, so I was wondering: are you planning on giving your own office a spring update?
