A drama based on a true story. As an unmarried teenager growing up in Ireland in the 1950s, when Philomena Lee (Judi Dench) fell pregnant it was not a cause for celebration. Her family sent her to a convent and the authorities there forced her to give her baby up for adoption.
Fifty years later, world-weary political journalist Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) meets Philomena and despite her story not being his usual area of interest, he is intrigued and agrees to help her investigate the fate of her child. Their search takes them to Ireland where they learn from the nuns that the baby ended up in America. So they set off on an eye-opening journey that not only reveals the story of Philomena's baby, but also creates an unexpected friendship between them.
By all accounts an amazing film and one not to be missed.
