Students are holding an open day for the public at Newark College this Saturday to celebrate their success in their musical instrument craft courses.
50 students are finishing college this summer and will have their instruments on display on Saturday 30th June from 11am to 4pm. At the Violin school on Kirkgate students will have violins, violas and cellos on display. Barnbygate Church will hold displays from the Woodwind, Piano and Guitar courses Professional musicians will be playing the steel stringed and classical guitars.
Jill Maynard, Programme Manager of the course stated;
“We have been putting on the open day since 1972, it gives the students the opportunity to showcase their work before they leave to go into full time employment.”
In the evening, students will be putting on a concert especially for college staff after the diploma presentation. Instruments made and repaired by students will be played by the Allegri String Quartet, Mark Ashford, Patrick Abbott and our very own jazz pianist.
