2nd Battalion - The Mercian Regiment (Worcesters and Foresters) is a light role infantry battalion, which can serve anywhere in the world.
Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment took to the streets of Newark this month for a Freedom March.
After a morning march through Newark, they attended service at Southwell Minster followed by a short march to the town's war memorial. Local Councillor Laurence Goff has sent us some photos.
More than 1,250 schoolchildren lined the streets of Newark from Tolney Lane, along Kirkgate and in the Market Place.
The salute was taken in the Market Place by the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir Andrew Buchanan, and the Mayor of Newark, Mrs Rita Crowe.
