Following on from the success of 2011’s giant Insect Procession, Page Blanche and December’s Lantern Procession, the Corn Exchange, Newbury is set to launch its most exciting series of outdoor productions yet. What’s more, the most recent performance will be created with local people and they are offering members of the community the chance to get involved and be a part of the magic.
Awarded the Inspire mark from London 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad, The Berkshire Giant Project will see a legendary tale of Giant proportions unfold across West Berkshire for an entire week later this summer (Sunday 17- Saturday 23 June 2012).
Corn Exchange is looking for people to volunteer to perform in, be a part of the production crew or to steward this spectacular series of events. This amazing opportunity will give local residents the chance to work alongside a team of incredible artists and performers from acclaimed Irish outdoor theatre company Macnas.
If you would like to play your part in telling this fascinating story that uses a remarkable combination of giant puppetry, carnival parade, installation and music, the Corn Exchange want to hear from you. You do not need to have any previous experience just plenty of enthusiasm and energy.
To find out more about how you can get involved, come along to the The Berkshire Giant Inspire Day on Saturday 21 April from 2pm - 4pm at the Corn Exchange, Newbury. During the afternoon you will have the opportunity to meet the creative team, be let in on a few little secrets and learn more about the story and the role you could play in one of the most exciting events to hit Berkshire this year.
The Berkshire Giant is presented by the Corn Exchange and is supported by Arts Council England, Greenham Common Trust and West Berkshire Council.
