Last Friday saw the official launch of the new look Carnarvon Arms, in Burgclere near Newbury, now under the ownership and direction of well known and respected chef Marco Pierre White.
The launch party on Friday was an opportunity for locals to see the transformation for themselves. And what a transformation!
The casual country look has been replaced by a full, no expenses spared refurbishment and makeover. In its place, is a stylish dining room which, whilst traditonal in feel, it has been uplifted by wall to wall hangings of impactful and varied contemporary art, from Marco's own private collection.
In addition to the main dining room, the bar area has been remodelled to include more casual seating where you can enjoy a pre or post dinner drink and there is an area where casual passers by, can simply enjoy a beverage. Both of these areas also feature collectables and art from Marco's collection.
The net result is very chic and welcoming dining pub/restaurant that retains a country feel but with a modern twist. It is certainly a dining venue that reflects the breadth of Marco's restaurateur experience. The smart ambiance doesn't however automatically demand high prices. As well as a wide ranging a la carte menu, diners can enjoy very competitively priced 2 or 3 course lunch and evening menues starting at £15 for 2 courses.
During the launch party on Friday where champagne was flowing freely and an indication of the delicious cusinine on offer was available in the form of beautifully produced canapes, Marco was also on hand to proudly show people his new venture and answer any questions.
What's also encouraging to see, is that many of the staff have stayed on to work and learn under Marcos expert eye and are looking forward to what is unquestionably a great opportunity and a great addition to the Newbury and West Berkshire dining scene.
